Getting Started

Before you get started there are a few things you’re going to want to get together to speed things up.

  1. First you’ll want to contact your current Hosting Provider (Go Daddy, Network Solutions, Host Gator, etc.) and ask them for your FTP Username and FTP Password. You will need these credentials to access the server where your website files are currently sitting.
  2.  Ask them what your Hosting IP address is, there are several ways to connect to the server but we’ve found using the IP is the most reliable connection.
  3. Lastly you will want to ask them if they can create a backup of your database for you.

It can help to create a new folder on your desktop titled “WordPress” to make it easier to find and organize your files while transferring them.  Next download an FTP Client such as Filezilla (Windows/Mac) or Fetch (Mac) so you can back up the files on your computer.  There are links below to download Filezilla or Fetch, you will only need the Client Version for your OS.  Once you’ve got one downloaded, lets get Connected to FTP.
